Funding will support policy research and evidence translation to inform state action and improve outcomes for young children and families

As families navigate evolving social and economic challenges, advancing evidence-based policy solutions is critical. The Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center is proud to announce a renewed investment of $750,000 from the Buffett Early Childhood Fund to support research and policy translation that strengthens environments where all children can learn, grow, and succeed.

Over the next three years, the funding will be distributed in annual installments of $250,000, to support the Center’s core operations, including:

    Policy research and evaluation:

Strengthening the evidence base on effective policies and strategies that impact early child development outcomes and family wellbeing.

    Translation of evidence:

Turning research findings into tools and resources that guide the adoption and implementation of evidence-based approaches.

    Cross-sector collaboration:

Fostering collaboration and engagement with policymakers, decisionmakers, and advocates to ensure that policies and programs are responsive to the needs of the communities they serve.

Renewed support from the Buffett Early Childhood Fund reinforces the essential role of research-informed policies to build systems of care that support children at different stages of development, promote lifelong learning, and provide a foundation for family stability that can be passed through generations. With this investment, the Center will continue to leverage the most rigorous evidence to identify what works and equip state leaders with expertise, tools, and resources they need to develop policies that drive meaningful community impact.

Early Childhood Governance Typologies: Patterns in State Governance Across the Nation

State choices in early childhood governance shape whether families can easily find, access, and use the services their children need. A new brief from the Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center maps how all 50 states and the District of Columbia organize these systems, identifying three governance typologies (whole child, school readiness, and parents' workforce participation) to help leaders align governance structure with their early childhood goals.
